DOT PHYSICALS

Nearly all schools and youth sports leagues require that the players have a complete sports physical. This preparticipation physical exam is an important part of safe sports participation. The exam can help screen athletes for potential illness or conditions that may limit or restrict their sports activity. It helps make sure that kids who play sports are physically capable of meeting the demands of a sport and don't have any conditions that may be aggravated by intense exercise.

Sports Physicals are usually required about a month prior to start of practice in order to allow time for addressing any medical conditions that are uncovered so a child can still participate in the sports even if they need to modify their training routine.

The goal of the sports physical is to help keep sports safe and accessible to every student who wants to play.

What to expect at your visit

1 Wear comfortable clothes and bring any required forms, including a completed health history.

2 The doctor will perform an examination, including:

  • Review of your health history
  • A thorough physical exam to determine if you are able to safely participate in typical sports-related activities
  • Provide sports safety and education tips

3 We'll give you a summary of your exam and stamp any medical forms required.

4 You are responsible for the price listed on our menu. Insurance is not accepted for this service.

The physical exam is designed to look for anything unusual including:

  • Heart rhythm and rate (heart murmur)
  • Joint pain or tenderness
  • Curvature of the spine
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Wheezing
  • Muscle imbalance
  • Vision Loss
  • Hearing Problems
  • Problems with reflexes

In some cases, if there is a health concern, a student may undergo the following procedures:

  • Blood Tests
  • Urinalysis
  • EKG or Echocardiogram
  • X-ray, MRI, CT scan or Bone Scan
  • Muscle Strength Testing

WE WILL NOT BE CONDUCTING DOT PHYSICALS UNTIL 02/2016

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires truck, van, bus or other commercial vehicle drivers to have a physical exam every two years to remain compliant, although some employers require their employees to be examined more frequently to adhere to individual policies. We provide convenient DOT-compliant physical examinations to help you meet DOT requirements—and keep your employees on the road.

we have a structured procedure designed to get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Here’s what you can expect during your DOT Physical:

  • We will check your height, weight, blood pressure, vision and hearing.
  • The doctors will conduct a thorough physical examination to determine your physical ability to drive.
  • You will be asked to give us a urine specimen.

DOT Drug Alcohol Testing

Drug alcohol testing is not part of a DOT physical exam but your Company may request to have drug alcohol testing done at the same time. DOT drug testing and blood alcohol testing are separate tests and separate charges.

Things to Remember

  • If you wear eyeglasses, please bring them with you.
  • Please bring the names of your medicines, or the bottles, with you to the examination.

If you are on medication for a chronic disease such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease, or you have a new diagnosis, such as sleep apnea, you may need to bring a note from your regular family doctor stating that your condition is stable, that you are being evaluated on a regular basis, and that you are considered medically capable of driving a commercial vehicle.

The following must be true to pass the physical exam:

  • 20/40 correctable vision in each eye
  • Cannot be a diabetic on needle-injected insulin
  • Blood pressure must be 160/90 or less
  • Blood sugar level must be under 200
  • The use of a narcotic or any other habit forming drugs will prevent you from passing the DOT physical
  • Current diagnosis of any cardiovascular disease or cardiac issues may require you to provide additional information from your doctor

  • Sleep apnea
  • Recent back injury
  • Recent major surgery
